Yankees Plan To Have Gleyber Torres At Shortstop
4 years agoThe New York Yankees plan remains to have shortstop Gleyber Torres continue as the starting shortstop in 2021, hopefully with DJ LeMahieu at second base if they can re-sign him. General manager Brian Cashman said this offseason that Torres "wasn't in the best shape" to begin summer camp, and he committed nine errors during the regular season and playoffs. On top of the disappointing defense, Torres hit just three home runs in 136 at-bats in 2020. But the Yankees expect him to bounce back on offense as he continues to work on his defense with infield coach Carlos Mendoza. Torres is still only 24 years old and has plenty of real-life and fantasy upside ahead of him. With Francisco Lindor now in Queens and the Yanks unlikely to reunite with Didi Gregorius, Torres should be their man at the 6 in 2021 and beyond.
