Trevor Story To Receive Qualifying Offer
3 years agoAs expected, the Colorado Rockies will be extending a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer to shortstop Trevor Story. The Rockies will now be able to get some draft-pick compensation when Story inevitably leaves as a free agent. He'll be one of the five premium shortstops on the open market this winter despite having a subpar season in 2021. The 29-year-old hit .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs, 75 RBI and 20 stolen bases. Still pretty good numbers, but Story was bothered by an elbow injury for most of the first half. Leaving hitter-friendly Coors Field won't be idea, but Story will still be an elite fantasy shortstop, and he'll have no shortage of suitors. The Rockies, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers could be his most serious pursuers.
