Tigers Kick Off Second Round With Dillon Dingler
5 years agoThe Detroit Tigers selected Ohio State catcher Dillon Dingler with the first pick of the second round (38th overall) in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. Dingler doesn't have a long track record of success at catcher and spent time in center field in his freshman season before breaking his hamate bone in his hand. Scouts have compared him to A's catcher Sean Murphy, who has turned into one of the better catching prospects in the game. Dingler has above-average arm strength and continues to improve his defense in other areas. His stats at the plate didn't stand out, but the 21-year-old controls the strike zone and has raw power from the right side of the plate.
