Tigers Could Restructure Eduardo Rodriguez's Contract
1 year agoThe Detroit Tigers and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez's agent remained in talks on Friday about potentially restructuring his client's contract, according to a source. Rodriguez has a Saturday deadline to exercise his opt-out clause for the 2024 season. E-Rod turned down a midseason trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers and clearly would prefer to keep his family in Detroit, so the two sides could work something out this weekend. If he chooses to opt out of the remaining three years and $49 million left on his contract with the team, the 30-year-old southpaw would surely be able to land more on the open market as a coveted starting pitcher. The Venezuelan hurler went 13-9 on a bad Tigers team in 2023 with a career-best 3.30 ERA (3.66 FIP), 1.15 WHIP, 48 walks and 143 strikeouts in 152 2/3 frames over 26 starts in his second year with the Tigers.
