Taylor Widener Tosses Six Scoreless Innings In First Career Start
Taylor Widener made his first career start on Sunday, where he held the San Diego Padres scoreless over six innings in a 3-1 victory. Widener allowed just three hits and three walks while striking out five, as he earned the win and the quality start. He gained a spot in Arizona's rotation with Zac Gallen on the injured list, and he looked good in Spring Training where he posted a 3.68 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings of work. Widener will get a couple more turns through the rotation before Gallen returns, and if he continues to pitch like this, he could very well bump someone else out and earn a permanent spot in the rotation. His next scheduled start will come on Saturday against the Reds, in which he will be an interesting streaming option in most formats.
