Surgery On The Table For Frankie Montas
2 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Frankie Montas (shoulder) continues to be evaluated, and a surgical option is "on the table," according to pitching coach Matt Blake. However, surgery would "not necessarily" be season-ending. The Yankees are doing their due diligence with Montas' shoulder injury with spring training starting for pitchers and catchers this week. The 29-year-old is expected to miss at least the first month of the season, and he'll likely miss most of the year if surgery is needed, although an exact timetable probably wouldn't be known until after he has surgery. The bottom line is that Montas is an extremely risky fantasy pick this year until we know more about whether or not he'll need to go under the knife. The Dominican starter had a 6.35 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in his eight starts for the Yanks in 2022 after being acquired from the Oakland Athletics.
