New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz had Tuesday’s scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves pushed back to Saturday against the Colorado Rockies due to back stiffness, and it doesn’t sound as if it’s necessarily getting better. According to manager Mickey Callaway, Matz is still feeling “tender” and won’t be available out of the bullpen on Tuesday as originally thought. As of now, it doesn’t sound as if there’s much danger of Matz missing Saturday’s start as well, but the Mets certainly weren’t expecting him to not display much improvement by now either. Matz has had his usual Matz-type struggles in 2018, walking a lot of hitters and not getting through six innings. He’s gotten beat up to the tune of a 4.98 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Fantasy owners shouldn’t expect much better until he proves he can do it.--John Smith
