Seahawks Release Cliff Avril
7 years agoThe Seattle Seahawks released defensive end Cliff Avril (neck) with a failed-physical designation Friday. Avril sustained a serious neck injury after just four games in 2017 and was put on Injured Reserve. The 32-year-old joined the Legion of Boom in 2013 and became one of the top players on their defensive front, recording 33.5 sacks in four full seasons from 2013 to 2016. He made the Pro Bowl in 2016 after notching 11.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. It's unclear if Avril will continue his playing career after the neck injury he suffered last season, but even if he does sign with another team, it's unlikely that he'll be nearly as effective as he was during his prime in Seattle.
