Samuel Basallo Caps Off Excellent May
6 months agoBaltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo put his rough April behind him with an excellent May performance that has already carried into the early part of June. Through May, the young backstop posted a .297/.373/.418 line with three home runs and is currently holding a .316/.381/.686 line with two home runs through June. This is a significant improvement over his April line of .262/.276/.440. In addition, Basallo has only gone hitless twice in his past 18 games. MLB Pipeline ranks 19-year-old as the number 13 prospect in all of baseball and second among catchers. He currently has logged only 54 total games at the Double-A level, so he should not be expected to reach the majors this summer. However, he is a valuable piece in dynasty leagues and will be a popular target in redraft leagues next summer.
