Martinsville Speedway is typically a track that Ryan Blaney and the #12 Penske team has circled on their calendar, but they have quite an uphill battle this weekend with the NOCO 400. In 14 career starts at this track, Blaney has never started worse than 17th, but on Sunday, he will start the race from back in the 31st position. It appears the team and/or driver just missed it during qualifying on Saturday. In practice, Blaney showed respectable time, ending up 14th-fastest with the 7th-best ten-lap average, so the slow time in qualifying was definitely a surprise. Blaney has finished 11th or better in each of the last eight Martinsville races and six of those have also been top 5 finishes. The poor starting spot definitely doesn't help his quest to continue that top 11 streak on Sunday, but it's not impossible.--Jordan McAbee
