Robert Tonyan Jr. 2023 Outlook: Backup Tight End In Low Volume Passing Offense
2 years agoChicago Bears tight end Robert Tonyan Jr. showed flashes of upside over his last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers, totaling 123 receptions for 1,260 yards and 15 touchdowns in 14 games. He led all tight ends in touchdown grabs in 2020, reaching the end zone 11 times. The further away that 2020 season gets -- the more apparent it is that his stats were likely just a product of Aaron Rodgers' greatness. He now finds himself as Cole Kmet's backup in one of the worst and most low-volume passing offenses in the NFL, so it'd be surprising if he enters the fantasy radar in 2023. Even if Kmet suffers an injury, Tonyan will have a low floor as the likely fourth option in the passing game behind DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool.
