Robert Gsellman Earns First Save Of The Year
6 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Robert Gsellman closed out a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night to earn his first save of the year. Gsellman pitched a scoreless ninth inning, giving up no hits and walking one. Manager Mickey Callaway opted to give regular closer Edwin Diaz the night off after his four-run implosion against the Dodgers two days prior. Diaz has had a solid year overall and there's little reason to think his job is in jeopardy at this point. Gsellman blew his previous three save opportunities this year and has a 3.63 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the year. He belongs on waivers.
