Reese Olson Receives Injection, Will Play Catch on Thursday
Reese Olson (finger) received an injection on Tuesday to treat the remaining inflammation in his right ring finger and will resume playing catch on Thursday, according to the Detroit News' Chris McCosky. It's unknown when Olson will be ready to return from the 15-day injured list after landing on the shelf on May 19 with his finger injury. He still needs to get back up on a mound, though, which means Olson probably won't be back in Detroit's starting rotation for at least another couple weeks, even if he foregoes a minor-league rehab assignment. In the meantime, pitching prospect Sawyer Gipson-Long will return from Tommy John and hip surgeries to start on Wednesday versus the Chicago White Sox. Olson was in the midst of his best season as a pro before his injury, going 4-3 with a 2.96 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 51:19 K:BB in nine starts for Detroit.
