Reds Acquire Mike Freeman From Cleveland
4 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds acquired utility infielder Mike Freeman from the Cleveland Indians on Friday in exchange for cash. The Indians valued Freeman's versatility and experience around the infield after he played 99 games and hit .270 in the last two years for them. They had signed him to a minor league deal last month with a spring training invitation. But with Amed Rosario now in town and Yu Chang also on the roster, Freeman was unlikely to make the team's Opening Day roster. The 33-year-old should have a better chance to crack Cincy's Opening Day roster as a utility man, but he won't necessarily be guaranteed regular playing time. His main competition will come from Kyle Farmer, Jose Garcia and Alex Blandino.
