Rangers Interested In Kohei Arihara
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers are believed to be among a number of teams interested in Japanese right-handed pitcher Kohei Arihara, who was posted last month by the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of the Japanese League. Teams have until this Saturday to reach a deal with him. Arihara has been compared to Kenta Maeda and Kyle Hendricks and figures to be a mid-rotation starter for whichever team lands him. The Rangers need some rotation help after trading ace Lance Lynn to the White Sox this offseason. The 28-year-old Arihara had a 3.65 ERA in six seasons in Japan, including a 3.46 ERA in 132 2/3 innings during 2020. Texas also traded Mike Minor over the summer and are expected to lose Corey Kluber to free agency, so adding another arm for the rotation is paramount.
