Ryan Gusto Starting for the Astros on Friday
Ryan Gusto will start Friday's game against the Athletics, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. With Lance McCullers (blister) landing on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, the Astros needed someone to step into the rotation, and it appears the Astros will go with Gusto, who has made 22 appearances on the season and 12 starts. For the season, Gusto sports a 4.46 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 77/26 K/BB ratio across 77 2/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers chasing points or quality starts could take a chance with Gusto on Friday, but he is not considered a great streaming option for the long haul. The Athletics' offense has been generally better against right-handed pitchers of late and ranks 17th in the Majors in runs scored.Source: Brian McTaggart
Houston Astros right-hander Andrew Salas Cranks First Professional Home Run
Source: MiLB.com
Miami Marlins shortstop prospect Andrew Salas went 2-for-3 with his first professional home run on Thursday evening during their contest against Low-A Palm Beach. The 17-year-old is playing in his first professional campaign with Low-A after joining the Miami organization earlier in January. Even though he is just 17 years old, the infielder has held his own against professional competition. Through 72 total games, Salas has flashed strong speed upside, swiping 24 bags while posting an impressive .343 OPB. However, his power has yet to translate, given his age, as he has only tallied eight doubles, two triples, and just hit his first long ball on Thursday. Dynasty managers should continue to monitor his development as he will likely remain in the minor leagues for at least the next four seasons. However, he has already begun to showcase solid potential and could be viewed as a top prospect once he continues to mature and develop.Zyhir Hope Busy on Thursday
Zyhir Hope enjoyed a productive day at the plate during their contest on Thursday evening against High-A Beloit. In this game, Hope went 4-for-5 at the dish with a long ball, a stolen base, and four runs. This was his third-straight game with at least one hit. The 20-year-old has looked rather impressive during his first taste of High-A action this season. Through 86 games with High-A Great Lakes, the No. 31-ranked prospect on MLB.com has posted a strong .293/.393/.476 slash line with 21 doubles, three triples, and 10 home runs. Hope has swiped 14 bags and added 58 RBI with 46 runs. Last season, the 20-year-old posted a .905 OPS with Low-A. Given his impressive development this season, Hope could be in the mix to open the 2026 season at Double-A, which could open the door for a late-season MLB debut.Source: MiLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Konnor Griffin Tallies Four Hits, Swipes Two Bags
Konnor Griffin went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases during their contest against High-A Brooklyn on Thursday evening. Griffin recently moved up to the No. 1 spot on MLB Pipeline's prospect ranking and has yet to slow down at High-A. Since moving up to High-A earlier this season, the former ninth overall pick has posted a .319/.422/.487 slash line with seven doubles, four home runs, and 18 stolen bases. Griffin opened the campaign with Low-A, and posted a strong .338/.396/.536 slash line with 10 doubles, nine long balls, and 26 stolen bases across a 50-game stint. The Jackson Prep High School product is quickly progressing through the minor leagues. Even though he is at least several seasons away from his MLB debut, he should be viewed as a high-end stash in all dynasty formats.Source: MiLB.com
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop prospect Jonah Tong Continues Stellar Run at Double-A
Source: MiLB.com
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Jonah Tong continued his dominant campaign at Double-A on Thursday evening. Facing Double-A Reading, the right-hander logged five innings of one-run ball with just three hits and no walks. He struck out six hitters. Since June 1 (45 innings), the budding ace has posted a near-perfect 1.20 ERA with a 0.73 WHIP. During this stretch, Tong has flashed elite strikeout potential, tallying 66 while serving up just 13 walks. Through 89 total innings at Double-A, Tong has posted a 1.72 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP. Given his incredible start to the season, the No. 58-ranked prospect in baseball should be in the mix to join Triple-A in the coming weeks. However, he will face an uphill battle to debut in Queens this season.Bubba Chandler Punches Out Seven in Victory
Bubba Chandler enjoyed a much-needed bounce-back on Thursday evening, facing Triple-A Toledo. In this start, the top-ranked pitching prospect in the Steel City tossed 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball with four hits and two walks. He struck out seven. In his last outing, the right-hander stumbled, allowing eight hits and five earned runs against Nashville. Fantasy managers should closely monitor Chandler's production at Triple-A, as he could be in the mix to join the MLB roster in the coming weeks. The right-hander has struggled at times at Triple-A this season, but has also flashed immense upside. With Mitch Keller, Andrew Heaney, and Bailey Falter viewed as potential trade candidates, Chandler could have a clear path to joining the rotation by the end of the month.Source: MiLB.com
Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean Sharp Again on Thursday
Nolan McLean tossed 7 1/3 innings of two-run ball en route to picking up the victory over Triple-A Omaha on Thursday evening. In this outing, McLean allowed four hits and struck out six hitters. He did not allow a walk. This was a much-needed bounce-back for the right-hander as he served up six runs in his previous outing against Triple-A Norfolk. However, before that rough showing, McLean appeared to be on the fast track to the big leagues, logging 37 1/3 innings to the tune of a 2.65 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, with a 43:16 K:BB. Fantasy managers should continue to closely monitor his status as he could earn the call to the big leagues in the coming days. Given his strikeout upside, he is worth stashing in all 12+ team leagues.Source: MiLB.com
New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Painter Allows Only One Hit on Thursday
Andrew Painter allowed two runs on one hit and three walks while striking out four across six innings against Triple-A Norfolk. Painter conceded just one hit all night, with it being a solo home run to Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who is out on a rehab assignment. He generated whiffs on all six pitches in his arsenal, totaling nine on 31 swings. He also consistently induced weak contact with an 82.6 MPH average exit velocity. The right-hander wasn't in the zone as often as you'd like at 45 percent, but still produced a quality start in 76 pitches. It was easily his best start of June, where he has struggled overall with a 5.91 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and an 18:5 K:BB in 21.1 innings. The Phillies' top prospect has things to clean up, but could debut in the majors as a starter or reliever late in the season.Source: MiLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Ashton Izzi Included in Josh Naylor Deal
Ashton Izzi and Brandyn Garcia to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for first baseman Josh Naylor. The right-hander has started 12 games at High-A this year and has struggled a bit with a 5.51 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, with a better 15.2 percent strikeout-minus walk-rate in 47.1 innings. The 21-year-old had better surface-level results at Low-A in 2024 with a 2.85 ERA. Izzi owns a wide five-pitch mix with a four-seam, sinker, slider, sweeper, and changeup. He's able to get great extension down the mound at 7 feet with a 5.8' release height. The slider is his best chase and whiff pitch, and his strike-throwing will be an area to watch for his development.Source: Jeff Passan

Jacob Melton Starting Rehab Assignment at Triple-A
Jacob Melton (ankle) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday. He went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in his return and looks to be healthy after recovering from an ankle injury. All four of his batted balls on the night were hard hit, with exit velocities of 99.9, 102.1, 107.9, and 111.7 mph. The 24-year-old earned a promotion to the majors before getting injured and struggled a bit with a .241/.290/.310 slash line with a 38.7 percent strikeout rate in 31 plate appearances. But he has an intriguing skillset with power and speed, as he's put up exciting home run and stolen base totals throughout his minor-league career. He is a solid speculative add in deeper leagues for when he is activated and someone to monitor in dynasty formats.Source: Matt Kawahara
Houston Astros outfield prospect Cristian Javier Throws 49 Pitches in Triple-A Rehab Start
Cristian Javier (elbow) made his first Triple-A rehab start on Thursday and threw 49 pitches (30 strikes) in 2 2/3 innings. Javier gave up one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout as he continues progressing toward an August return to the majors. The 28-year-old hasn't pitched in the bigs since May 2024 as a result of Tommy John surgery. As the owner of a lifetime 3.59 ERA over 116 appearances (82 starts), Javier could help Houston's rotation upon his return. He's among a handful of Astros starting options on the mend from long-term injuries, joining the likes of Luis Garcia (elbow), Spencer Arrighetti (thumb), and J.P. France (shoulder). The team hopes to get all of those reinforcements back in the coming weeks as it pushes for an AL West title.Source: MiLB.com
Houston Astros right-hander Griffin Conine Begins Throwing Program
Griffin Conine (shoulder) has begun a throwing program as he recovers from season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, Kevin Barral of Fish on First reports. Conine, who dislocated his shoulder on April 19, threw from 60 feet on Tuesday and will increase the distance by 15 feet every other day. The 28-year-old expects to be cleared for full swings with the bat in three to four weeks, and he should be ready for the Arizona Fall League or an international winter league. Conine debuted in 2024 and has amassed just 160 plate appearances since then, but he has hit a productive .274/.338/.445 with four home runs and 19 RBI. If healthy, he'll have a good chance to earn a roster spot next spring.Source: Kevin Barral - Fish on First
