Anthony Santander Out With Hip Injury on Thursday
Anthony Santander (hip) is absent from the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the visiting San Diego Padres at Rogers Centre as Toronto goes for the three-game sweep. Santander was pulled early from Wednesday's 14-0 blowout win over SD after aggravating a left-hip injury, so it's not a huge surprise the 30-year-old isn't playing a day later in a matinee game. It's unclear if the injury is serious enough to land him on the injured list, but perhaps Toronto will view it as a chance to get the struggling slugger an extended mental break after a tough start to his first year in Canada. Santander is hitting just .188/.266/.327 with six homers, 18 RBI and 13 runs scored. Outfielder Daulton Varsho is the DH and is in the three-hole, while Myles Straw patrols center field and hits eighth on Thursday against Padres right-hander Stephen Kolek.Source: MLB.com
Toronto Blue Jay outfielder/designated hitter Jonah Heim Back in Lineup as the Designated Hitter
Jonah Heim (hand) is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale in the Bronx against the hosting New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon, serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth. Heim was pulled early from Wednesday's 4-3 loss at Yankee Stadium with a compressed nerve in his right hand, but he's obviously feeling good enough to hit a day later. Imaging on the 29-year-old backstop's hand came back negative, but he's not ready to play defense quite yet. Heim has actually had reverse splits so far in 2025, batting .316 (12-for-38) with two of his six home runs in 42 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers, although he won't have an easy matchup on Thursday against Rodon. Heim is hitless in just one career at-bat against Rodon.Source: MLB.com
Texas Rangers catcher Trea Turner Connects on Home Run No. 3 on Wednesday
Trea Turner went 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the Rockies. He hit his third homer of the season in the second inning as the first half of back-to-back blasts since Bryce Harper followed with a long ball of his own. Turner also singled, stole a base, and scored in the first inning. He has multiple hits in each of the Phillies' three games in Colorado and is 29-for-85 (.341) over his last 19 games with two home runs and five stolen bases. While his power production has been lower this season, his stolen bases and batting average have trended up enough to still make him a top shortstop play. Hitting atop a productive lineup makes him a strong starting option whenever the Phillies are in action, especially as they finish their series at Coors Field on Thursday and then head to Sutter Health Park for the weekend.Source: ESPN.com
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Teoscar Hernandez Carries Dodgers Past Diamondbacks
Teoscar Hernandez hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning of Wednesday night's win over Arizona, providing the Dodgers with all their offense for the entire game. Hernandez finished the game 1-for-3 with his home run and a strikeout, and the rest of the batting order went just 4-for-26. His three-run blast came off Corbin Burnes and gives Hernandez 10 homers in his 36 games this season. He's hitting .307, which would be a new career-high, with a .292 ISO and .395 wOBA. Since returning from the IL, Hernandez is 1-for-8 with two runs scored and four RBI, but he made that one hit count on Wednesday, delivering the difference-maker as the Dodgers took their second straight win headed into Thursday's scheduled off-day.Source: ESPN.com
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Zach Neto Stays Scorching-Hot on Wednesday in Sacramento
Zach Neto continued his impressive delayed start to the season on Wednesday by going 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot for the Halos with a home run, a stolen base, two runs scored, and two RBI. In just 30 games, Neto is already up to eight homers and eight stolen bases while hitting .283 and scoring 25 runs for the Angels. Over his last nine games, he is hitting a robust .316 (12-for-38) with four homers, three walks, a stolen base, and a 51.9% hard-hit rate, per Statcast. Neto's blend of power and speed in a premium lineup spot should make him a top-10 shortstop the rest of the season.Source: ESPN.com
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Lawrence Butler Homers and Steals a Base in Athletics Loss
Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler teamed up with Nick Kurtz to provide all the Athletics' offense on Wednesday night, but unfortunately, their power display wasn't enough to overcome the Angels. Butler hitread more...
Francisco Lindor Homers and Swipes Two Bags on Wednesday
Francisco Lindor helped the Mets avoid a sweep at Fenway Park on Wednesday night by going 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with a home run for an insurance run in the ninth inning. He doubled to lead off the game against Garrett Crochet and stole third base before being stranded. He added another theft in the seventh inning after reaching on a fielder's choice. On the season, Lindor has 10 homers and nine stolen bases and is hitting .283 with a .361 wOBA. He has been a solid contributor at the top of the Mets' lineup and will remain a great option at shortstop in all formats with a very high ceiling on a nightly basis since he can have a big night with power, speed, or a combination of the two.Source: ESPN.com
New York Mets shortstop Daulton Varsho Feels Grand in Toronto's Big Win
Daulton Varsho went 1-for-5 in Wednesday night's 14-0 rout of the Padres, but he made that one hit count for his fantasy managers. He crushed a grand slam in the eighth inning off relief pitcher Alek Jacob for his seventh homer of the year. The four RBI bring his total to 17 in just 16 games, and his homer boosts his ISO to .400 and his wOBA to .349. Varsho's batting average is still low at just .217, but his power has been excellent since his return from the injured list. Varsho now has four homers and two doubles in his last seven games while going 7-for-29 (.241). If you are looking for power in the outfield and can sacrifice some batting average, Varsho is starting to emerge as a mixed-league option.Source: ESPN.com
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Logan O'Hoppe Goes Yard Twice In Angels' Win
Logan O'Hoppe had a pair of home runs in the Halos' 10-5 win on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old backstop went 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored, and three RBI. His first home run was a two-run shot in the second inning, and his second was a solo shot in the fourth. Both blasts came off lefty JP Sears, and O'Hoppe is now hitting .364 against southpaws this season with three of his 13 homers on that side of the split. Overall, O'Hoppe is up to .270 on the year with 13 homers and a .363 wOBA. He's on pace for a career year and has been one of the most productive hitters at a thin catcher position. He's definitely mixed-league material and a strong pickup if available.Source: ESPN.com
Los Angeles Angels catcher Nick Kurtz Posts First Career Multi-Homer Game
Nick Kurtz posted his first career multi-home run game during their loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday evening. Kurtz went deep for the first time in the fifth inning off Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz. Then in the seventh, Kurtz would tally his second solo shot of the contest, this time off Shaun Anderson. This was Kurtz's second-straight game going deep and fourth long ball of his MLB career. Through his first 25 games at the major league level, the former fourth overall pick has posted a .233/.277/.419 slash line. However, it appears he is starting to turn the corner from a power perspective. Earlier in the summer, Kurtz flashed elite power potential at Triple-A, launching seven home runs in just 20 games. Given his increasing production, he is a viable corner infielder in all standard formats.Source: MLB.com
Athletics first base prospect Kevin Alcantara Hits Two Home Runs on Wednesday
Kevin Alcantara went 2-for-3 with two round-trippers during their contest against Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. Alcantara tallied three RBI. Over his last four contests, Alcantara has gone deep three times and tallied eight RBI. However, prior to this stretch, Alcantara carried a 16-game power slump. During this skid, the 22-year-old posted a modest .203/.282/.266 slash line with just four doubles. Through 37 total games at Triple-A Iowa, Alcantara has posted a solid .248/.325/.426 slash line with 10 doubles and five long balls. Last season, the No. 74-ranked prospect in the sport received a brief taste of MLB action and tallied one hit across three games. However, given Chicago's depth in the outfield, Alcantara may have to wait for his first extended look in the major leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Cristian Mena Strikes Out Six on Wednesday
Cristian Mena struck out six batters across five frames on Wednesday evening. In this outing, Mena allowed three runs (all unearned) and four hits. He did not serve up a free pass. This was the right-hander's second-straight outing now allowing an earned run. During this stretch, Mena has logged 10 1/3 innings of work to the tune of a 0.68 WHIP with 13 punchouts. Before this recent stretch, Mena carried a high 5.78 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP across his first 29 2/3 innings of work this season. Mena received a brief taste of the majors this season but logged just three 2/3 innings. He made his MLB debut last summer but also only tossed three innings. If the 22-year-old continues to progress well at Triple-A, he could be in the mix to earn a longer stint in Arizona.Source: MiLB.com
Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed pitching prospect Ronny Mauricio Goes Deep in Second Straight Contest
Ronny Mauricio has continued to swing a hot bat at Triple-A and is nearing a return to the major leagues. On Wednesday, the No. 9-ranked prospect in the system went deep in his second straight contest. He also posted his third-straight multi-hit game at Triple-A Syracuse. The 24-year-old missed the entire 2024 campaign and the opening month of the 2025 season recovering from a torn ACL. However, the infielder appears to have returned to form. He made his MLB debut late in the 2023 campaign and posted a .248/.296/.347 with two home runs and seven stolen bases. While the Mets' infield is quite crowded at the moment, if Mauricio continues to hit, he will earn a promotion. Fantasy managers in NL-only formats should continue to monitor his production at Triple-A, as he may be just weeks away from his return to Queens.Source: MiLB.com
New York Mets infield prospect Keiner Delgado Launches Three Long Balls on Wednesday
Keiner Delgado went 4-for-6 at the plate with three home runs during their contest on Wednesday against High-A Asheville. The 21-year-old has continued to hit for power during his first taste of High-A action. Through 37 games this season, Delgado has posted a solid .264/.342/.479 line with an .821 OPS. He has tallied nine doubles, hit seven round-trippers, and has even swiped nine bags. Last summer, Delgado spent most of his time at Low-A, where he posted a .231/.318/.347 slash line with eight home runs across 89 games. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production, as it appears the No. 26-ranked prospect in the Pittsburgh system has begun to showcase higher power upside. If he continues to hit well, he should be in the mix to join Double-A in the second half.Source: MiLB.com
