6 days agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates recalled outfielder Jack Suwinski from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday and placed outfielder Ji Hwan Bae (wrist) on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right wrist in a corresponding move. The team also added Liover Peguero to the active roster and placed outfielder Michael Taylor on the paternity list. Suwinski is starting in center field and batting ninth on Tuesday against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow. In 29 plate appearances for Indy, the 25-year-old Suwinski hit .250 with a homer and will now get another shot to prove he deserves playing time in center field against right-handers in the big leagues with both Bae and Taylor not with the team. Suwinski hit just .224 last year but did manager an impressive 26 home runs, 74 RBI and 13 stolen bases for the Bucs.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Pittsburgh PG - Andrew Destin

6 days agoAfter being called back up from Triple-A Indianapolis, Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Henry Davis is back behind the dish on Tuesday and is batting eighth against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Tyler Glasnow. The Pirates sent the 24-year-old former first overall pick to the minors in early May after he started the year with a .162/.280/.206 slash line with no home runs, four RBI and 29 walks in his first 83 plate appearances of the 2024 season. Now that he's back, Davis will split playing time behind the dish with veteran Yasmani Grandal. It's a tough first matchup against Glasnow in his return to the Show, but Davis' prospect pedigree alone makes him deserving of a roster spot in at least deeper fantasy leagues. In 23 games at Indy, Davis went 24-for-81 (.296) with seven homers and 17 RBI.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Pittsburgh PG - Andrew Destin

6 days agoCleveland Guardians catcher Bo Naylor is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals and right-hander Seth Lugo. Instead, David Fry will do the catching for Cleveland and bat fifth in the lineup. Naylor has been out of the team's lineup now in four of their last five games as he continues to struggle offensively. The 24-year-old hit .164 in May and is slashing .173/.250/.263 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 13 walks and 52 strikeouts in 148 plate appearances over 43 games so far in 2024. Fantasy managers may just want to leave Naylor on their benches for the time being until he starts to turn things around and get more playing time. Fry has been one of the bigger surprises in baseball this year, hitting .355 (38-for-107) with eight homers, 27 RBI and four stolen bases for the first-place Guardians.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoThe Chicago White Sox made a series of roster moves Tuesday, headlined by the return of outfielder Luis Robert (hip) from the 10-day injured list. He had been sidelined since early April with a Grade 2 right hip flexor strain. Robert is slashing .214/.241/.500 with two homers, four RBI, and three runs scored in seven games and should immediately be added to fantasy lineups. The White Sox placed outfielders Tommy Pham (ankle) and Dominic Fletcher (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list in corresponding moves. Chicago also called up outfielder Zach DeLoach from Triple-A Charlotte and added the contract of outfielder Duke Ellis from Double-A Birmingham while designating infielder Zach Remillard for the assignment.--Brandon Williams - RotoBallerSource: Chicago White Sox

6 days agoAfter former translator Ippei Mizuhara's guilty plea, Major League Baseball has cleared Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and has closed its investigation, citing the thoroughness of the federal investigation and the criminal proceedings not being contested. "MLB considers Shohei Ohtani a victim of fraud and this matter has been closed," the league said in a statement. MLB considers Ohtani "a victim of fraud" at the hands of Mizuhara and won't suspend him at all. Mizuhara pleaded guilty to bank and tax-fraud charges. It always seemed like a long shot that the 29-year-old MVP would be suspended by the league, but now it's official. Despite the ongoing investigation, Ohtani has remained one of the best hitters in the league and is currently slashing .322/.392/.596 with 14 home runs and 14 stolen bases in his first 58 games with the Dodgers.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com - Jeff Passan
Share:
6 days agoThe Chicago White Sox called outfielder Duke Ellis from Double-A Birmingham on Tuesday. The 26-year-old has impressive speed, stealing 34-of-35 bases while hitting .258/.341/.308. He owns a career .665 OPS and 0.39 BB/K ratio over four minor-league seasons. Ellis will help the team's outfield defense and could have some playing time opportunities with Andrew Benintendi (Achilles) and Tommy Pham (ankle) on the injured list. Fantasy managers in deep leagues needing an injection of steals will need to pay close attention to how the American League Central cellar dwellers use Ellis.--Brandon Williams - RotoBallerSource: James Fegan, Sox Machine

6 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday and will see a specialist, according to manager Alex Cora. He underwent an MRI, which revealed a lot of inflammation in his ankle. Abreu will need to let the swelling subside and most likely won't need more than 10 days. The loss of Abreu has depleted the Red Sox outfield to the point where first baseman-designated hitter Bobby Dalbec will make his first MLB start in right field for Tuesday's home game against the Atlanta Braves. Abreu is slashing .272/.344/.485 with six homers, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 53 games. The Red Sox, however, are optimistic outfielder Tyler O'Neill (knee) will return as soon as Wednesday. --Brandon Williams - RotoBallerSource: Jenn McCaffrey, The Athletic
Share:
6 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (knee) will begin a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and is optimistic about returning to the majors on Wednesday. O'Neill was placed on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation on May 29, retroactive to May 26. He is slashing .236/.343/.500 with 11 home runs, 17 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 41 games. Should he be activated from the injured list on Wednesday, fantasy managers will have no problem adding O'Neill's power back into their lineups.--Brandon Williams - RotoBallerSource: Alex Speier, Boston Globe
Share:
6 days agoBobby Dalbec will start for the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, but not at his usual first base or designated hitter role. Instead, Dalbec will start in right field for the first time in his Major League Baseball career in place of the injured Wilyer Abreu (ankle) and will bat seventh in the order. Dalbec is slashing .132/.207/.170 with four RBI and three runs scored in 23 games. He has played the position before, having played 15 games in Triple-A in right field. The power potential for Dalbec is always there, but fantasy managers are best leaving him out of their lineup.--Brandon Williams - RotoBallerSource: Pete Abraham, Boston Globe
Share:
6 days agoThe Cincinnati Reds promoted outfielder Blake Dunn from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Dunn, the Reds' 11th-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, was hitting .223/.348/.378 with four homers, 22 RBI, 29 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 44 games with Louisville. The right-handed hitter offers a blend of speed and power, stealing 54 bases while hitting 23 homers between High-A and Double-A in 2023. The Reds' 15th-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft is an interesting waiver wire selection, but fantasy managers should wait and see how often the Reds install him in the lineup.--Brandon Williams - RotoBallerSource: Cincinnati Reds
Share:
6 days agoFree-agent right-hander Julio Teheran has signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Teheran will give the Orioles some starting pitching depth after it was recently announced that both left-hander John Means (elbow) and Tyler Wells (elbow) will miss the rest of the 2024 season. The 33-year-old Teheran opted out of his minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs over the weekend and has quickly latched on with another organization. The 13-year-old MLB veteran allowed four earned runs on six hits (one homer) in 2 2/3 innings in his lone start for the New York Mets this year and shouldn't be counted on for much in fantasy if he makes any starts for the O's the rest of this season. Teheran has a career 3.85 ERA (4.38 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with a 20.5% strikeout rate and 8.0 % walk rate in 1,470 2/3 innings pitched.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: New York Post - Jon Heyman
Share:
6 days agoChicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Mason Adams has begun to turn the corner at Double-A and could be promoted up to Triple-A later this summer. After opening the season with a poor 3.68 ERA in April, he has responded with a stellar 0.91 ERA and 0.81 WHIP through five starts in May. Adams did not allow more than one earned run in each of his starts and tossed two six-inning shutout performances throughout May. The 24-year-old has now logged 72 innings at Double-A over the past two seasons with an overall 2.13 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. MLB Pipeline considered the right-hander the number 19 prospect in the White Sox system and projects him to reach the major leagues next season. If Adams can carry this dominance into Triple-A, he is well worth adding in dynasty and keeper formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com
Share:
6 days agoMiami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia is being designated for assignment by the team on Tuesday, according to sources. Garcia is in the third year of a four-year, $53 million contract, so the Marlins will eat almost $24 million on the deal with the move. The 32-year-old played in only 18 games for the Fish this year and went 12-for-50 (.240) with two home runs and two RBI while missing time due to a hamstring injury. The former All-Star in 2017 with the Chicago White Sox has aged poorly in the last three years since clubbing 29 homers and driving in 86 in 2021 in his final year with the Milwaukee Brewers. In his three years with Miami, Garcia slashed just .218/.260/.322 with 13 homers, 49 RBI and six stolen bases in 153 games played. The veteran outfielder will now look for another opportunity as outfield depth with another club.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com - Jeff Passan
Share:
6 days agoThe Washington Nationals announced on Tuesday that they recalled left-handed pitching prospect DJ Herz from Triple-A Rochester to replace right-hander Trevor Williams (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Herz will make the start on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets in Williams' place and could stick around for another turn or two through the rotation if he performs well. The 23-year-old southpaw gets his first big-league call-up after posting a 3.75 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 29 walks in 36 innings for Rochester. Washington's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, lives on his fastball-changeup combination. Herz comes with a career strikeout rate over 30% in the minors, but his lack of command is worrisome for fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for a under-the-radar streamer on Tuesday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Washington Nationals
Share:
6 days agoOakland Athletics outfield prospect Henry Bolte posted an impressive .309/.464/.588 line with five home runs, 20 RBI, 11 swiped bags, and a 22:32 BB:K ratio. This is a significant improvement compared to his April line of .265/.344/.458 with three home runs, 15 RBI, nine swiped bags, and a much lower 8:36 BB:K ratio. Bolte spent all of last season with Single-A Stockton and held a .257/.356/.421 line with 14 home runs and a poor 62:164 BB:K ratio. The former second-round pick is projected to reach the major leagues in 2026, so he should be expected to remain with High-A for the rest of the summer. The 20-year-old should stay on your waiver wire for now but could be worth stashing in dynasty leagues if he continues to lower his strikeout rate and showcase his strong power and speed combination.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

Ambiguous means uncertain or unclear. These backfields do not have a true No. 1 running back. Sometimes, this could mean a wide-open competition from the top to the bottom of the depth chart.
