4 seconds agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is taking his first day off of the season on Tuesday on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. It's a much-needed break for Tatis, who was recently on a hot streak for the Friars. But after losing a 17-game hitting streak on May 25, Tatis has just two hits in his last 18 at-bats over five games. But on the season as a whole, the 25-year-old Dominican outfielder has been strong for San Diego and his fantasy managers, slashing .273/.348/.458 with an .806 OPS, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, eight stolen bases and 48 runs scored in 297 at-bats. Tatis is a no-doubt must-start in all leagues when he's active. David Peralta is in right field and is batting seventh, while infielder Jake Cronenworth moves up to the two-hole on Tuesday against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 mins agoCincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates. Freidl was pulled from Monday's series opener with hamstring tightness that isn't considered serious. For now, fantasy managers should consider him to be day-to-day. With Friedl sidelined, Stuart Fairchild is starting in center field and will bat leadoff against Pirates left-hander Bailey Falter. Check back on Wednesday to see if Friedl is able to return for the series finale. The 28-year-old outfielder has some serious fantasy value when he's facing right-handed pitching, but injuries have held him back in 2024, and he's currently hitting only .214 (18-for-84) with four homers and six stolen bases. Fairchild will have some DFS sleeper appeal atop the lineup. He's hitting just .227 (27-for-119) with four homers and six steals.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Cincinnati Reds
Share:
11 mins agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz is sitting out on Tuesday against left-hander Nick Lodolo and the visiting Cincinnati Reds. With Cruz out, Jared Triolo will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Lodolo. Cruz is hitting just .113 (7-for-62) with two of his nine home runs, three walks and 23 strikeouts in 65 plate appearances against southpaws this year, so he'll take a seat in this one against a tough left-hander. He's currently in the midst of a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 6-for-17 (.353) with two doubles and four RBI. Cruz has been better in the month of June, batting .296 (13-for-44) with two homers, three doubles, 10 RBI and a stolen bases as Pittsburgh's starting shortstop. Triolo has never faced Lodolo in his career and won't be a popular DFS sleeper on Tuesday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

17 mins agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is taking the day off on Tuesday against the hosting Miami Marlins. Amidst his recent slump, Arenado will head to the bench after going 3-for-20 in his last five games, including an 0-for-6 performance in the team's extra-inning win on Monday. The 33-year-old veteran's recent cold stretch has dropped his season slash line to .256/.310/.372. Arenado has added six home runs, 32 RBI and 25 runs scored for a disappointing Cardinals squad this year. In the month of June, Arenado has gone 15-for-60 (.250) with a homer, three doubles, six RBI, five walks and 12 strikeouts in 16 games played. With Arenado resting on Tuesday, veteran Brandon Crawford will take over at the hot corner and will bat eighth against Marlins right-hander Roddery Munoz.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: St. Louis Cardinals

25 mins agoThe Toronto Blue Jays recalled infield prospect Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday and placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move with a right-calf strain. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will now be an option at shortstop alongside Isiah Kiner-Falefa for the Blue Jays for however long Bichette remains out. For what it's worth, Kiner-Falefa is making another start at the 6 for Toronto on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Martinez was hitting .260/.343/.523 with 16 home runs in 63 games for Buffalo before getting the call to the Show for the first time in his career. Keep in mind that Martinez hasn't actually played short in the minors this year, so most of his playing time in the short term could come at either second or third base. He should already be rostered in dynasty/keeper leagues and could be worth a pickup in single-year leagues if he sees enough playing time.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Toronto Blue Jays

30 mins agoThe Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right-calf strain and recalled infield prospect Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Bichette has been sidelined with the injury since last Friday and will now miss additional time. It's unclear if he'll be able to return from the 10-day IL when he's eligible. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting again at the 6 on Tuesday and has been filling in at shortstop since Bichette's injury, but Martinez could also get some run at the position now that he's up in the big leagues. The 26-year-old Bichette has been one of the biggest disappointments for the Blue Jays in 2024. After making the All-Star team for the first time in his career last year, he's hitting .237 (61-for-257) with four homers and four stolen bases in 66 games. Despite the disappointment, keep him stashed in all leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Toronto Blue Jays

2 hours agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Luis Perales (elbow) is scheduled to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. The right-hander was removed from his start in early June due to right elbow inflammation. Perales underwent further testing which revealed he needed to undergo surgery. This is a shame considering the 21-year-old is one of the top pitching prospects in the Red Sox system. He held a 2.94 ERA and 56/12 K/BB ratio during his time in Double-A this season. The expectation is that Perales won't be on the mound until late 2025.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Chris Cotillo
Share:
2 hours agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (elbow) is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab start at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. The right-hander is working his way back from elbow inflammation that has sidelined him since the end of May. The hope is that Clevinger is able to rejoin the White Sox's rotation after this start. The organization will likely wait and see how the 33-year-old feels before making a final decision. Clevinger has little fantasy upside at this point on the worst team in baseball, but he could have some streaming appeal in AL-only leagues in the right matchups.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Daryl Van Schouwen
Share:
2 hours agoCleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez has been activated from the paternity list prior to Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The veteran slugger missed the final two games of the Blue Jays series while his wife gave birth to their second child. Now, the 31-year-old is back in action and ready to continue his fantastic 2024 campaign. In a corresponding move, first baseman Kyle Manzardo has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Ramirez back in their lineups on Tuesday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: John Sabol
Share:
2 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll (ribs) is expected to return to the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals. D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll is penciled into the lineup, so it sounds like it was a minor issue. Carroll underwent an MRI on his side, which came back clean without any structural damage. Possibly, Carroll is held out if he experiences soreness prior to first pitch. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update. UPDATE: Carroll is in center field and is batting leadoff on Tuesday versus right-hander Jake Irvin and the Nationals.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Alex Weiner
Share:
2 hours agoCleveland Guardians first baseman Kyle Manzardo has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. The 23-year-old will head back to the minors after struggling during his first stint with the big league club. Manzardo slashed .207/.241/.329 with zero home runs and seven RBI in 30 games. In a corresponding move, third baseman Jose Ramirez has been activated off the paternity leave list. Manzardo does have a ton of potential, but it appears he does still need to work out some things in the minors.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: John Sabol
Share:
2 hours agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (neck) is uncertain to make his next scheduled start on Thursday versus the Chicago White Sox. The veteran right-hander has been making slower progress than expected, according to Astros manager Joe Espada. Verlander was scratched from Saturday's start against the Detroit Tigers due to discomfort in his neck. The Astros will likely wait and see how Verlander feels over the next few days before making a final decision. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on his status.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Chandler Rome

4 hours agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos posted five multi-hit performances over the past week at Triple-A Sacramento. During this stretch, Matos held a .464/.516/.1.214 slash line with five long balls, six doubles, and one stolen base, with no strikeouts. Matos was sent back down to Triple-A earlier in June, logging a 21-game stint in the majors where he posted a .224 AVG. While the 22-year-old has looked very strong at the top level of the minors with a .300/.364/.547 line across 73 games, it has yet to show in the majors with a modest .243/.300/.329 line through 97 games. Matos is worth holding onto in keeper and dynasty formats, as he still has high potential and should get another chance in the majors in the coming months.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

4 hours agoWashington Nationals outfield prospect Daylen Lile is being promoted to Double-A Harrisburg. Lile is taking the open roster spot from former number two overall pick Dylan Crews, who was recently promoted to Triple-A. Lile has been at High-A for the entirety of this season and the second half of last season and holds a cumulative .255/.335/.387 line through 97 games. However, this season he posted a much stronger .271/.352/.410 line compared to the .234/.310/.357 line he posted last summer at High-A, which suggests the former second-round pick is progressing quite well in the minor leagues. Lile is ranked as the number seven prospect in the Washington system on MLB.com and is projected to reach the majors next season. The outfielder is worth paying close attention to in dynasty leagues, as he could become an interesting stash candidate later this summer.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB Central

4 hours agoSeattle Mariners executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander announced on Tuesday that the team reinstated infielder Ty France (heel) from the 10-day injured list and designated catcher Seby Zavala for assignment in a corresponding move. France is back after landing on the IL on June 9 with a right-heel fracture when he was hit by a pitch on Friday, June 7. Overall this year, France is hitting .251 (53-for-211) with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBI and 19 walks in 61 games. In his last 27 games since May 10, he's hitting .267 (24-for-90) with 10 runs, six doubles, five homers, 18 RBI and an .865 OPS. France should be back in the starting lineup at first base for Tuesday's contest against the Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Triston McKenzie, which will push rookie Tyler Locklear to the bench.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
