Niners Hope Elijah Mitchell Can Make Progress This Week
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes that rookie running back Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) will be able to shed his no-contact jersey in practice this week. Mitchell has missed the last two games after suffering a shoulder stinger in Week 2. In the loss to the Seattle Seahawks, fellow rookie Trey Sermon handled 19 carries for 89 yards on a 58.6 percent snap share. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk didn't see a single carry, but he did catch all four of his targets for the second straight week with Mitchell out for 41 yards. Fantasy managers will want to monitor Mitchell's practice participation throughout the week, but it looks like he'll have a decent shot to return in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals. Depending on how healthy he is, he could retake the backfield lead.
