Nelson Cruz Quietly Heating Up
7 years agoSeattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz has hits in six of his last seven games heading into Thursday's game against the Rangers. Cruz is also 6-for-13 (.461) over his last three games played with one home run and three runs driven in. It has been a struggle the first two months of the season for Cruz, who has been dealing with nagging ankle, foot and elbow injuries. But he is too good of a hitter to be kept down long, and the team is 33-22 without Cruz carrying the offense. Cruz will need to improve his .236 batting average against right-handed pitching moving forward to turn his season around. He has not hit less than .280 against right-handers since 2014 and has not hit less than 39 home runs in a season since '14. It should only be a matter of time before the slugger begins to bring up his fantasy production.
