Mike Soroka Not Pitching In World Baseball Classic
2 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Soroka (Achilles, elbow) will not pitch in this year's World Baseball Classic for Team Canada. Instead, Soroka will report to spring training in order to try and win a spot in the team's Opening Day rotation. The 25-year-old has had bad injury luck the last two years and hasn't pitched in the majors since the shortened 2020 campaign because of two Achilles tears and an elbow injury. He is expected to be at full health this spring, which will help him as he mainly battles Ian Anderson for the last spot in Atlanta's rotation. Before he was hurt, Soroka was ace-like for the Braves in 2019. Fantasy managers that take a flier on him will be hoping he can get anywhere close to his pre-injury level, but workload restrictions will surely cap whatever upside he has in 2023.
