Mike Clevinger Starting Game 4 Against Phillies
2 years agoSan Diego Padres right-hander Mike Clevinger will make the start in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to skipper Bob Melvin. This is likely to be a bullpen game from both teams. Clevinger started Game 1 of the NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and wasn't good, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out three in 2 2/3 innings in a loss. The 31-year-old allowed a whopping 21 earned runs on 30 hits (eight homers) while walking eight and striking out 18 in 29 innings in his final six starts of the regular season, so he's coming into this big Game 4 on a long rough stretch. If he falters early, Melvin will have no hesitations in pulling him and going to his bullpen, which has been very strong this postseason.
