Mets Could Go After Josh Donaldson
3 years agoThe New York Mets are focusing on upgrading their offense and the third base position and have engaged in preliminary talks with the Minnesota Twins for third baseman Josh Donaldson, according to league sources. With the calendar flipping to July, the trade rumors are starting as we approach the deadline at the end of the month. The Mets don't want to trade the few top prospects they have, and they want to remain under the luxury-tax threshold. So if they are able to land Donaldson, they'd have to unload other salaries in a deal. If the Chicago Cubs are willing to sell, New York would also be interested in Kris Bryant. J.D. Davis and Jonathan Villar are getting close to returning from their respective injuries, but Donaldson would surely be an offensive upgrade over both at the hot corner. He's hitting .250/.345/.486 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI for the Twins in 2021.
