MacKenzie Gore Starting Grapefruit League Opener
2 years agoWashington Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore will start the team's Grapefruit League opener on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Gore was acquired from the San Diego Padres last August as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Juan Soto to the west coast. The 23-year-old southpaw didn't pitch at all for the Nationals after the trade in 2022 due to an elbow injury, but he's healthy now and will kick off the Grapefruit League schedule this weekend. Gore never quite panned out as one of the Padres' top prospects, but he still has the upside to break out as a post-hype prospect in a full-time role with the Nationals in 2023. He is still developing his secondary pitches, though, so Gore is much more attractive in dynasty/keeper leagues still.
