Max Scherzer Progressing From Ankle Sprain
4 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (ankle), who sprained his left ankle during conditioning drills two weeks before spring training, is progressing and threw from 60 feet on Sunday. "He felt better -- he said he's about 80 to 85 percent," manager Dave Martinez said on Monday. The Nats are taking it day-to-day with their ace, but the good news is he's progressing and didn't feel any pain during Monday's spring workout. Scherzer should be ready for Opening Day, barring any setbacks. The right-hander had a disappointing season in 2020 by his lofty standards, posting a 3.74 ERA, his highest mark since 2012. His 1.38 WHIP was the highest of his career. Scherzer is still a fantasy ace, but at 36 years old, we might be seeing the first signs of declining skills.
