Matthew Stafford 2023 Outlook: Still Fantasy Viable After a Year of Injuries
2 years agoMatthew Stafford's entire 2022 season was marred by injury. First, Stafford was limited throughout training camp with an elbow issue. Stafford was able to manage that to get to the regular season but struggled with effectiveness behind a porous offensive line before being knocked out for the season after nine games thanks to a spinal contusion. When all was said and done, the veteran quarterback completed 68% of his passes for 2,087 yards and 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. While Stafford's best days are in the rearview mirror, that doesn't mean he won't be usable for fantasy. The Rams upgraded their offensive line in the draft and still have Cooper Kupp lining up in the slot. Stafford likely won't replicate his 2021 season (4,886 yards and 41 passing touchdowns), but he can still be a solid QB2 as long as he's able to remain healthy. The veteran quarterback is currently being drafted as the QB22 in early summer ADP which is reasonable given his injury concerns. There is also a very real chance that Stafford can exceed that value in a pass-happy offense featuring one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
