Mariners Calling Up Pitching Prospect Emerson Hancock
Emerson Hancock on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the situation. Per MLB Pipeline, Hancock is the club's No. 4 overall prospect. The 24-year-old right-hander will bypass Triple-A and will get the call to the big leagues after going 11-5 with a 4.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 38 walks and 107 strikeouts in 98 innings over his 20 starts for Double-A Arkansas this year. The sixth overall pick of the 2020 MLB draft has had some clunker outings, but overall he's been solid for Arkansas. High walk and strikeout rates will make him unpredictable in his first taste of the big leagues, but the strikeout upside can't be ignored by fantasy managers in deeper leagues. The former Georgia Bulldog doesn't have as high of a ceiling as fellow rookie starter Bryce Miller.
