Julian Merryweather Earns Roster Spot
Julian Merryweather will open the 2021 season with the major league club. The hard-throwing right-hander missed a good portion of the spring due to a back injury and he appeared in just two games. He did not allow a run during that stretch of two innings but had a K-BB of 2-1. Last season, Merryweather appeared in eight big league games and produced a K-BB of 15-6 in 13 innings. He allowed six runs during that stretch (4.15 ERA). He's expected to provide length out of the bullpen early in the 2021 season, assuming he can stay healthy. His season ended early in 2020 due to right elbow tendinitis.
