When Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson returned from the disabled list on May 3 with two doubles and a home run, fantasy owners reasonably thought it was off to the races with the former American League MVP. Unfortunately, that hasn’t worked out as planned. Donaldson did pick up a double in a 12-2 loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday, the team’s only extra-base hit, but as of late he still hasn’t done much of anything. In Donaldson’s 42 plate appearances since the game after his big return, he’s slashing a poor .205/.262/.308 with no home runs, two runs scored and one RBI. Donaldson is bound to get it going at some point, but right now this is not what fantasy owners were expecting after investing a high draft pick in the free agent to be.--John Smith
