Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares got to celebrate his first goal of the season in Friday's 5-3 loss to San Jose. The Maple Leafs captain made it 4-3 13:39 into the third period, but the team couldn't get the equalizer. Tavares produced four total shots in the game and had one hit in 16:12 on the ice. Toronto has had some lineup issues and hasn't quite hit the stride yet, leaving stars like Tavares and Auston Matthews sitting on disappointing numbers. However, the slump shouldn't last too long, and the likes of Tavares and Matthews will surely make up for lost time.--Taavi Pailk
