Jets Ready To Spend Big On Quarterback
2 years agoNew York Jets owner Woody Johnson told reporters on Thursday that if general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh tell him there is a veteran quarterback they need, Johnson will "absolutely" be ready to spend what it takes to land him. "That's the missing piece," Johnson said of a franchise quarterback. Tom Brady is the only QB currently slated to hit free agency that would command a big contract, but the Jets could be exploring which expensive veterans might be available via trade. The news comes on the same day that Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said goodbye to the organization. Along with Carr, San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo could be a trade option. Former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson fell flat in his second NFL season and was benched twice, although he'll have a chance to compete for the job in 2023.
