Jets Not Afraid To Start Rookie QB
7 years agoEven though New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown is the projected starter for 2018, head coach Todd Bowles said he would start a rookie under center, if necessary. “It depends on the progress,” Bowles said. “I’m not afraid to play young players at any position. You go in and compete and as you gain confidence in the system, understand what you’re doing and go through training camp.” The Jets started Geno Smith in his rookie season in 2013 and Mark Sanchez in 2009. After the Jets traded up to No. 3 overall, it's been widely expected that they will draft a franchise QB in that spot, with Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen the most likely options.
