Jeff Hoffman Hit Hard By Cubs
6 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Jeff Hoffman got an extended run in the team's rotation two years ago, and he was bad. He's now been given three turns in a row this season, and he's been better, but only slightly. Tuesday's start against the Cubs featured some bad luck, like stranding half the runners who got on base against him, but it also featured some obvious mistakes, like throwing a 96 MPH fastball down the heart of the plate to Kyle Schwarber, who quickly turned it into a Home Run Derby re-enactment. The good news is Hoffman's ERA of 7.29 is way off from his xFIP of 4.01, so he's at least worth watching. It's not a sure thing that he'll ever be able to bring his actual ERA down to that number though. If he continues to get chances, he gets a favorable match-up in New York against the Mets this weekend.
