5/8:If there was ever a place for struggling New York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce to get going, it might as well be his old stomping grounds at Great American Ballpark, right? In a 7-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, Bruce finally got on track in a 2-for-3 effort with a home run, two RBI and two walks. The dinger was only Bruce’s third of the season. After a blistering 2017 campaign, Bruce has gotten off to a mightily slow start in his second tenure in Queens, likely attributed in part to the plantar fasciitis he’s dealing with in his left foot. He’s had this issue on and off throughout his career, though, so if he’s past it for now, perhaps the 2017 version of Bruce is ready to emerge in 2018.--John Smith
