Jake Burger Activated and Starting on Wednesday
Jake Burger (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned third baseman Josh Jung to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Burger will serve as the designated hitter on Wednesday and will bat seventh in his first game back against the visiting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. Josh Smith is at first base and is batting leadoff, but he should slide over to third base regularly for the Rangers with Jung in the minors to work on his swing. The 29-year-old Burger was serving as the team's primary first baseman before his oblique injury, but he could be eased back in for a bit as the DH. Burger has plenty of power but is also in the 19th percentile in whiff rate and seventh percentile in chase rate, so he's not going to do anyone any favors in the batting average department. He's gone deep 10 times in his 236 at-bats this year.
