Washington Capitals goaltender Hunter Shepard will be the man between the pipes in Wednesday's matchup against New Jersey. He will make his NHL debut as Washington completed a back-to-back set. The Capitals are forced to go with their third option in goal because of Charlie Lindgren's (upper body) injury. Shepard had an outstanding college career with the University of Minnesota Duluth but went undrafted. He has worked his way up from the ECHL and helped the Hershey Bears win the Calder Cup last season in the AHL, winning the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the playoff MVP. The 27-year-old has proven that he can stop pucks at a good rate, but there are currently definitely a lot more comfortable matchups in the NHL right now than facing the Devils, who have scored four goals per game in their first five outings of the season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
