Hector Neris Blows A Save On Thursday Afternoon
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris allowed one run in one inning to take his third blown save of the season on Thursday. Called on to protect a one-run lead, Neris struck out Ronald Acuna Jr. before serving up a game-tying homer to Freddie Freeman. Neris would escape the inning despite a walk and a wild pitch, but the damage was done to cost Zack Wheeler a win on a day where he threw eight shutout innings. Neris shouldn't be in trouble of losing the ninth-inning role as this was a difficult save situation and he's been mostly good this season, pitching to a 2.19 ERA with nine saves and 31 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings. He should be rostered in all leagues where saves are valued.
