Gleyber Torres Still Has A Bright Future
4 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres hit 38 home runs in 144 games in 2019, but he finished last season with just three long balls in 42 games and his barrel rate dropped 6.4 percentage points, the sixth-largest drop in baseball. His hard-hit rate increased from 36.5 percent to 38.0 percent, but almost half of his hard-hit batted balls were on the ground. But Torres had the fourth-largest chase-rate decrease (11.1 percentage points), swinging at just 20.2 percent of pitches out of the strike zone in 2020. The 24-year-old saw his strikeout and walk rates improve as a result, and he hit .435 with two home runs and a 1.262 OPS in seven playoff games. Torres came into summer camp out of shape after the delayed start to the season. He could be an absolute bargain at his current ADP of 69 heading into 2021.
