Edwin Diaz Nails Down Save No. 11
Edwin Diaz nabbed his eleventh save of the season in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The hard-throwing righty punched out three batters over a perfect 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Diaz was summoned in the top of the eighth inning to protect a 4-2 Mets lead and struck out Mookie Betts with a runner on second to end the threat. The Mets' closer came back out for the ninth and needed just seven pitches to strike out Teoscar Hernandez and Freddie Freeman before inducing Andy Pages into a groundout. It's the seventh straight hitless outing for Diaz, and he hasn't allowed an earned run in over a month. He boasts an excellent 2.53 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 30:10 K:BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings.
