Dylan Carlson Batting Leadoff For Cardinals
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson is starting in right field and hitting leadoff on Opening Day on Thursday against Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher JT Brubaker. After experimenting with Carlson at leadoff this spring, the Cardinals will use the 23-year-old in the top spot for the first game of the regular season. This could be a permanent move if Carlson takes well to the spot, which is bad news for second baseman Tommy Edman, who is hitting ninth Thursday. Carlson became an everyday player for St. Louis down the stretch last year and finished with a .266/.343/.437 line with 18 home runs, 65 RBI, 79 runs and two steals. His counting stats will be bolstered if he's hitting leadoff regularly, and Carlson's strong walk rates make him a perfect fit for the role.
