Dustin May Starting Opener For Dodgers
4 years agoWith Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (back) going on the injured list with back stiffness, the team recalled starter Dustin May, who will make the start against the Giants on Opening Night on Thursday. It will be May's first career Opening Day start, and he will become the first Dodger rookie to start on Opening Day since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981. The 22-year-old right-hander is listed by MLB Pipeline as the team's No. 2 prospect. Gingergaard made his big league debut in 2019, posting a 3.63 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 32 strikeouts and five walks in 14 outings (four starts) over 34 2/3 innings. May uses a two-seam fastball with sink and a hard-breaking curveball to generate ground balls. He could have significant value in mixed leagues if he remains in the rotation and should be a prime DFS play against San Francisco on Opening Night.
