Dodgers Avoid Arbitration With Walker Buehler
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers avoided salary arbitration with starting pitcher Walker Buehler by signing him to a two-year, $8 million deal, according to a source. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus, a $2.75 million salary in 2021 and a $3.25 million salary in 2022. The right-hander will also have escalators built into the contract for games started and incentives if he wins the Cy Young Award. It was Buehler's first year of being arbitration-eligible, and he will have a chance to cash in again in 2023 and 2024. The 26-year-old got a late start to the shortened season in 2020 and wound up throwing just 36 2/3 regular season innings. Buehler was an All-Star in 2019 when he went 14-4 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while striking out 215 hitters in 182 1/3 innings over 30 starts. He's a top-10 fantasy ace that will come off the board in the early rounds just after the truly elite starters.
