Dee Strange-Gordon Signs Minor League Deal With Reds
4 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds signed second baseman/outfielder Dee Strange-Gordon to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training on Sunday, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. Strange-Gordon was an All-Star in 2014 and 2015 and spent the last three years with the Seattle Mariners. The left-handed hitter batted just .200 with a .268 on-base percentage and one extra-base hit in 75 at-bats in 2020, while his .482 OPS was well below his career mark of .679. The 32-year-old will compete for a utility role in Cincinnati in spring training. Strange-Gordon has some experience at shortstop, but he's made just four starts at the 6 in the last two years. He has some speed to spare and is versatile on defense, but Strange-Gordon won't be a fantasy option in mixed leagues if he wins a roster spot. He led the National League in stolen bases three times and won a batting title in 2015 when he hit .333, but he stole just three bags last year.
