Danny Duffy Pitches Well In Loss
5 years agoKansas City Royals starting pitcher Danny Duffy put up his fourth quality start in his last five appearances on Wednesday when he went 6 2/3 innings against Cleveland. Duffy allowed two earned runs, but that was enough to get saddled with the loss as his offense failed to appear. It was a wild outing by Duffy, walking five and allowing a run to score on a wild pitch, but no major damage came from his mistakes. Duffy's recent stint of quality starts is tempting for owners in leagues that don't track wins (he's 0-2 in the stretch), but the underlying numbers say he should be avoided. An xFIP of 5.43 follows his well below-average strikeout rate and sky-high strand rate. Don't be surprised if the second half isn't as kind to Duffy. He won't pitch again before the All-Star break.
