Daniel Murphy Drives In Three
6 years agoColorado Rockies first baseman Daniel Murphy is still recovering some from his hand and back ailments, but that isn't slowing down his ability to hit for extra bases. Murphy stepped in as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of Sunday's contest and promptly cleared the bases with a three-run double. The concern coming off his injury was that Murphy wouldn't be able to drive the ball as well, but so far, he's been doing just fine in that department. In his first 66 plate appearances this season, Murphy has racked up two homers and five doubles. That's on pace for more than 40 doubles in a full season, and easily more than 30 in Murphy's injury-shortened year. It looks like he'll get plenty of rest days with folks like Ian Desmond, Ryan McMahon, Mark Reynolds, and Garrett Hampson trading off time between them, and that may help keep the 34-year-old on the field more in the long run.
