Cubs Meet With Carlos Correa
2 years agoThe Chicago Cubs met with free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa on Monday, according to a source. The shortstop market got a big boost when the Philadelphia Phillies signed Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million deal on Monday. The Cubs seem unlikely to spend big bucks on the free-agent market as they rebuild, so it remains to be seen if a player like Correa will be in their wheelhouse. The 28-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Twins for the 2022 season and slashed .291/.366/.467 with an .834 OPS, 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored in 522 at-bats over 136 games played. He declined his $35.1 million option for the 2023 season to re-enter the free-agent market for the second straight offseason.
