Clarke Schmidt Has Internal-Brace Procedure, Expected Back in 2026
Clarke Schmidt (elbow) underwent season-ending elbow surgery earlier this month, but it was not a full Tommy John procedure. Rather, Schmidt had internal-brace surgery and should miss less time as a result, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. The 29-year-old's estimated timeline to return is 11 to 13 months, meaning he could factor into the Yankees' rotation in the second half of 2026. Schmidt ended the 2025 campaign 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 73:30 K:BB in 78 2/3 innings. The Yankees have had difficulty replacing Schmidt and are on the hunt for rotation help with Thursday's trade deadline looming.
