Chi Chi Gonzalez Takes The Loss In Relief On Tuesday
Chi Chi Gonzalez took the loss on Tuesday when he surrendered two runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout over 2 1/3 innings in a 3-2 loss to the Mets. Gonzalez came on in relief of Kyle Freeland, who was making his season debut, in the fifth inning with the game tied at 1-1. He walked Jonathan Villar to start things off but he managed to get through the frame unscathed. He made his big mistake in the sixth inning as allowed a single to Dominic Smith before Tomas Nido smoked a two-run homer to center field. The Rockies were kept off the scoreboard for the rest of the game so Gonzalez took his third loss of the season. He now owns a 4.70 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 24:13 K/BB ratio over 44 innings (10 appearances, seven starts). He'll most likely serve as a swingman between the rotation and the bullpen moving forward, which puts a damper on what little fantasy value he had.
