Hagen Smith Wild, But Effective Over Five Innings
Hagen Smith picked up the win on Wednesday as he allowed two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out six across five innings against Double-A Chattanooga. The five walks were the second-highest in a start this season for the lefty, but he managed to limit the damage otherwise. His swing and miss stuff was on display despite his lack of control, with 18 swings and misses. It's been a solid season for the 2024 fifth overall pick, despite not moving quite as quickly through the White Sox system as some anticipated. The 21-year-old missed some time this year due to injury, and the walks have been a real concern. He holds a 3.60 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 75:37 K:BB ratio through 50 innings at Double-A. Managers in dynasty leagues should still have high hopes while also keeping a close eye on his development track.
